The Old Forge is situated in the village of Boxford, a medieval village of historic interest in the county of Suffolk Boxford is a thriving village voted by The Times as of the top ten villages to live. It boasts a good pubs, a wonderful coffee shop, a farmer’s shop/delicatessen, a fantastic butcher and a village store for everyday essentials. There is also a beauticians and a hairdressers if you feel like a bit of pampering or have a special event to attend.
Situated between the market towns of Hadleigh and Sudbury, Boxford is not far from Kersey, Lavenham, Dedham (Constable country) and the many other beautiful Suffolk villages making it an ideal spot to explore the local area. There are many footpaths leading from Boxford to enjoy a ramble through the country side.
To explore the towns the market town of Bury St Edmunds is about 45 mins drive and the wonderful city of Cambridge is approx 1.5 hours away. Colchester and Ipswich are about 30 minutes. For the coast the beach towns of Felixstowe and Frinton are within the hour and Aldeburgh, Southwold and Walberswick approx 1.5 hours away. We have a beach hut in Felixstowe available for hire separately.
You can manage without a car in the village with the facilities available although if you wish to explore further a field a car is advisable. Parking is not an issue. There are buses going to Ipswich and Hadleigh but the timetable is limited.
We have two bikes available if you would like to explore the area by bike. Taxis are easily available from Colchester and Sudbury railway stations.
